The Chino Valley Unified School District brings American Band to a combined fundraiser for four great Southern California high school bands: Ayala, Chino, Chino Hills, and Don Lugo. The event is open to the public and is a fundraiser for all local music programs.

 

Seattle, Washington

Secret Garden Bookshop and Seattle Public Library

Another great independent Seattle bookstore teams up with the incomparable Seattle Public Library to host a reading, fundraiser, and concert. A reading at 2 pm in the Ballard Public Library is preceded by live music provided by a quartet of musicians from the Garfield High School jazz band. The reading is also a fundraiser for area music programs.

Indiana State Fair Band Day. Indianapolis, Indiana. 8 am – 4 pm and 7 – 8 pm. The opening event of the Indiana State Fair is also probably the longest-running contest for high school marching bands in the country—61 years in 2007. Kristen will be signing books from 8 am to 4 pm under the grandstand. Anyone who buys American Band during that time has $3.00 donated to the band program of their choice!

Two weeks before the book’s official release, Kristen reads from American Band in a restored historic 1793 meetinghouse as part of the reading series’ eighteenth season. Past readers have included Alice Munro, Andre Dubus, Louise Erdrich, and Grace Paley.
